A big win strengthens Al-Ahly Benghazi’s ambitions in African basketball competitions

A big win strengthens Al-Ahly Benghazi's ambitions in African basketball competitions

Al-Ahly Benghazi basketball team revived its qualification chances. They are competing in the 2026 Kalahari Conference. Al-Ahly secured a significant 107-80 victory over Nairobi City Thunder. The match took place on Friday. It was held at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa.

The Libyan team now has two wins and two losses. Their offensive strength continues. They scored over 100 points for the second consecutive game. This reflects improved performance as the tournament progresses.

The game started with a balanced pace. The Kenyan team led by two points at halftime. The dynamic completely changed after the break. Al-Ahly Benghazi entered with a different approach. They imposed clear control. The third quarter was crucial in extending their lead.

Al-Ahly excelled due to diverse offensive options. They also transitioned quickly from defense to offense. This gave them a comfortable advantage over time. The opponent’s performance declined. They could not match Al-Ahly’s high tempo.

Several Al-Ahly players showed outstanding performance. Donovan Williams and Jo Lual-Acuil each scored 23 points. Majok Deng delivered an excellent performance. His contribution helped secure an early lead for his team.

Albert Odero also returned to play. He provided an addition from the bench. He later left the game due to injury.

Nairobi City Thunder’s position is now complicated. Their record stands at one win and three losses. This significantly weakens their qualification chances.

Al-Ahly Benghazi faces a crucial test next. They will play against the Johannesburg Giants. This match will largely determine their fate in the tournament. It will decide if they advance to the next stage.
