Cairo – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit affirmed Arab states’ rejection of Iranian aggressions. These aggressions target the sovereignty of some countries in the region. He stressed the need to respect their territorial integrity. Their capabilities must not be compromised. The security of their citizens must not be threatened.
He spoke during the ministerial-level Arab League Council meeting. This was the 165th ordinary session. The session focused on discussing the targeting of several Arab states’ territories. It addressed impacts on their safety and sovereignty. Aboul Gheit also highlighted the importance of an immediate halt to escalation. He urged adherence to relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Resolution 2817 was among them. This would help de-escalate the situation. It would preserve security and stability in the region.
He also stressed the need to stop threats. These threats impact navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. The strait holds strategic importance. It is vital for global trade and energy supplies.
