Benghazi – Youssef Al-Aqouri chairs the House of Representatives’ committee. This committee investigates frozen Libyan funds abroad. Al-Aqouri stated on Saturday that any manipulation or mismanagement of these funds abroad. He considers this a direct assault on Libyan sovereignty. It also violates the rights of future generations.
Al-Aqouri emphasized the committee’s commitment. The committee will not be lenient in pursuing this matter. It will take all necessary parliamentary, legal, and international measures. These actions aim to protect the funds and reclaim state rights.
Al-Aqouri’s statement followed a UN Security Council briefing. The briefing took place today. It was part of ongoing efforts to monitor the frozen Libyan funds issue. The issue includes serious violations.
During the briefing, Ambassador Ammar Benjama spoke. He is Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN. Benjama stated that frozen Libyan financial assets are eroding. They are also being misused. Some foreign financial institutions are responsible. This clearly violates international law. It also violates UN resolutions.
He demanded, on behalf of Algeria and the African Group. There must be a comprehensive and transparent accounting process. Responsible parties must be held accountable. The Libyan state must be compensated for any losses.
Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia also spoke. He is the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN. Nebenzia stressed the danger of tampering with frozen Libyan funds. He insisted on strict oversight of their management. Their preservation must be ensured. These funds belong to the Libyan people.
Al-Aqouri welcomed international support for Libya’s position. He affirmed full coordination with friendly Security Council member states. This aims to ensure a comprehensive financial audit of the assets. It also aims to compensate Libya for any irregularities.
