Benghazi – The head of the National Alignment Party, Dr. Salama Ibrahim Al-Ghweil, called for swift implementation of salary increases for retirees. He affirmed that this segment’s conditions can no longer tolerate further delay. This is due to escalating inflation and rising living costs.
In a statement, Al-Ghweil said retirees are not marginal. They are the nation’s memory and its pillar. He noted that completing the legal and technical procedures for the increase, according to Law No. 5, should pave the way for actual implementation. This should occur without delay.
He emphasized that retirees’ rights are legal and moral obligations of the state. These rights are linked to social justice. They also involve respecting groups who served for many years. He called for providing the necessary financial allocations. These allocations are estimated at 6 billion dinars. This funding is crucial to begin implementing the increase without delay.
Al-Ghweil urged competent authorities to allocate an exceptional budget for the social security system. He asserted that the dignity of retirees must remain among the state’s priorities. Addressing the retirees’ file is part of a broader reform. This reform includes social justice and more sustainable financial policies.
He concluded his statement by saying, “Retirees’ rights are not a favor.” “They are a duty the state owes to its children who served it for many years.”
