Al-Kufra – The official spokesman for Al-Kufra Municipal Council, Abdullah Suleiman Hamed, announced news. Representatives from a specialized Turkish company have arrived. They were commissioned by the Development and Reconstruction Fund. They will begin maintenance work on Al-Kufra Airport runways.
Suleiman Hamed clarified the situation. This followed the airport’s announced one-month closure. Work has already commenced on the old 400-meter auxiliary runway. This runway previously hindered aircraft landings. It also caused damage to aircraft wheels. The completion period for this work is one month.
He added that the Development Fund tasked a Turkish company. They will maintain the main runway. This runway has been out of service since 1993. The company has already arrived. They have surveyed the site. Implementation is expected to begin within three months.
Hamed confirmed that flights will resume immediately. This will happen after the auxiliary runway is completed within one month. Work on the main runway will continue in parallel. Al-Kufra Airport will then operate at its full capacity. It will utilize both runways.
