Najia Rashed is the Director of the Tuberculosis Control Department. She works at the National Center for Disease Control. Rashed stated that TB cases among irregular migrants rose by 59% in 2025. She made this statement to Al-Masar TV. Rashed noted that the percentage of infected migrants was 40% in 2023.
This figure increased to 54% in 2024. She explained that unregulated migration could lead to most infected individuals arriving from neighboring African countries. This makes controlling their movements difficult.
Rashed emphasized that the real danger lies in the state’s inability to fully control the migration issue. Rashed added that the number of infected Libyans has not increased. This is because they receive treatment.
They also have known places of residence. There are no problems in monitoring their health. She clarified that controlling the situation of migrants is challenging. Their addresses are not fixed. Their location in shelters changes monthly. Their numbers are also increasing.
