Former Egyptian intelligence agency deputy Mohamed Rashad stated that supporting the Palestinian cause is a national commitment. Various Egyptian state institutions uphold this commitment. This includes delivering humanitarian aid.
In special statements to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Rashad affirmed that any Egyptian measures to secure borders are subject to national security calculations. They also consider regional developments.
Rashad indicated that these convoys, such as the “Convoy of Steadfastness 2,” raise widespread doubts. He questioned their true objectives. He suggested they might go beyond humanitarian aid for mere display. This could create tensions between Egypt and Israel at the Rafah border crossing.
According to Rashad, the excessive celebration of these convoys by some media outlets affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood warrants scrutiny. Necessary precautions must be taken to secure the borders. This requires coordination with authorities in eastern Libya.
