Benghazi – The “Clash Point of Arab Nations International” homing pigeon race saw wide participation. Competitors represented Libya and several Arab and European countries. These included Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, and France. It is one of the country’s most prominent races.
Mohammed bin Ghariba is an official at the homing pigeon point. He stated to the Libyan News Agency that 382 birds participated. The competitions included racers from various Libyan cities. These cities included Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata, Zawiya, Derna, Sabha, Tobruk, and Ajdabiya. Other regions were also represented.
Bin Ghariba explained this wide participation. It reflects the growing popularity of homing pigeons in Libya. The hobby has evolved from limited local races. It now includes regional and international competitions.
He noted that races are held in several stages. They start with short distances. They extend up to 500 kilometers in the final race. Financial prizes and major awards are allocated for top finishers.
Bin Ghariba affirmed the competitions’ role. They support enthusiasts and develop the sport. They enhance competition among participants from Libya and abroad. This solidifies Libya’s position in organizing such races.
