Cairo – The Chairman of the National Diabetes Authority, Awad Gwairy, held a meeting on the sidelines of the 16th Arab Diabetes Forum (ADF 16) in Cairo, which aims to exchange expertise among Arab specialists in the field of diabetes and to discuss ways of cooperation with companies operating in the diabetes drug industry.
The meeting was attended by a number of foreign companies specializing in the pharmaceutical industry to discuss mechanisms for providing diabetes medications to patients in Libya, emphasizing the need for proper coordination and respect for the laws and regulations in force in the country.
The meeting addressed some of the wrong practices committed by some companies in the Libyan market due to a lack of oversight, where these companies expressed their commitment to Libyan laws and their readiness to rectify their situations in accordance with the approved legal frameworks.
Representatives of insulin manufacturing companies also pointed to the Libyan market’s need for better regulation in the request and supply of medications to ensure their continuous availability according to the actual needs of patients.
An agreement was reached during the meeting on a unified working mechanism with these companies to support medical and training programs, contribute to organizing scientific conferences, provide technical support to Libyan medical staff, and enhance participation in local and international health events to serve diabetes patients in Libya.
The Authority affirmed that these steps aim to improve the management of the diabetes drug market in Libya and enhance cooperation between official bodies and the companies operating in this field, to ensure the regular and effective access to medications for patients, which contributes to improving healthcare in the country.
