Agadir – The Egyptian national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2025–2026 Africa Cup of Nations. They defeated Benin 3–1 after extra time. The match took place on Monday evening. It was held at Adrar Stadium in Agadir. This was part of the Round of 16 of the tournament.
The first half ended in a goalless draw. Egypt had an advantage in possession. Benin, however, maintained strong defensive organization.
Marwan Attia opened the scoring for Egypt in the 69th minute. He scored with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area. Benin equalized in the 83rd minute through Jodel Dossou. Regular time ended with a 1–1 draw. The match proceeded to extra time.
Yasser Ibrahim scored Egypt’s leading goal in the first period of extra time. He headed the ball in expertly in the 97th minute. Mohamed Salah sealed the victory with the third goal in the 120+4 minute. This confirmed the Pharaohs’ qualification for the quarter-finals.
With this win, the Egyptian team continues its journey in the tournament. They will face the winner of the match between Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in the next round.
