Benghazi – The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energies of the Libyan Government has announced the ongoing implementation of its grid reconstruction plan, gradually restoring power to several vital facilities and substations. These operations are being carried out under the direct supervision and follow-up of the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energies, Awad Al-Badri, as part of efforts to restore full stability to the electrical network.
The ministry reported that technical teams successfully energized the Tobruk gas-fired power plant, with efforts underway to bring the third and fourth units into service. Additionally, the fifth unit at the North Benghazi power plant has been put into operation.
The scope of work also included re-energizing the Sidi Mansour, Cogelex, Al-Hadiqa, Al-Marj, Al-Janoub (South), and Al-Quwarsha substations. This was synchronized with executing gradual loading operations and restoring loads in coordination with the specialized control centers.
Furthermore, the ministry indicated that grid restoration efforts expanded to include energizing the Qaminis substation and providing power supply to the Great Man-Made River reservoir. This is in addition to restoring power to the Benghazi Central Hospital feeders via the Al-Janoub substation, as well as energizing the Marawa and Brega substations and restoring all associated loads.
As part of completing the system’s recovery, the ministry explained that the 220 kV Brega – Ajdabiya Circuit No. 2 was connected, and the Ajdabiya substation was re-energized, alongside energizing the Al-Tamimi substation. Meanwhile, technical procedures are ongoing to complete the power supply to the Ajdabiya substation and deliver electrical voltage to the Zueitina power plant in preparation for operating its fifth unit.
The ministry confirmed that its technical teams continue to work around the clock to complete the reconstruction of the electrical grid and ensure the restoration of power supply to various regions as quickly as possible.
