It is “very unlikely” that Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will be able to go to the international summit on Libya which France is hosting on November 12, Italian news agency Nova reports.
Citing Libyan sources, Nova reports that Erdogan is reluctant to attend because “it is not yet clear what will be the usefulness of this conference”.
The conference aims to ensure that Libyan elections are be held on schedule and to discuss the “departure of foreign forces and mercenaries,” according to last month’s announcement by French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.
Turkey refuses to withdraw its force from Libya because it views its military presence in the country as legitimate following the security deal it signed with the last Libyan government.
