Brussels – Several European airports were hit by a cyberattack, causing operational disruptions, delays, and flight cancellations.
Several European airports revealed on Saturday that they were subjected to a cyberattack targeting the service provider for check-in and boarding systems, causing operational disruptions and flight delays or cancellations at airports in Brussels, Berlin, and London’s Heathrow.
The German capital’s airport, Berlin, announced that the passenger check-in systems service provider was attacked on Friday evening, which later prompted the airport to disconnect from the affected systems.
The airport explained that as a result, passengers are expected to face longer waiting times for check-in and boarding, in addition to the postponement of some flights.
Brussels Airport in Belgium warned on its website of significant consequences for flight operations as a result of the attack, noting that check-in and boarding are currently being processed manually due to the system failure.
Heathrow Airport in the British capital, London, also announced the possibility of flight delays due to a technical problem with the system, stating that efforts are underway for a swift repair.
