The United Nations has warned against the formation of a parallel government in Libya while noting that its consequences on the country’s unity.
Farhan Haq, the deputy spokesman of the U.N., told the press on Tuesday that the creation of a parallel government “will hinder the unification of executive institutions and the banking system”.
“The Libyan parliament is trying to appoint a new prime minister, despite the presence of a person already appointed to that office,” the spokesman added.
Libya’s House of Representative declared the government of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh as illegitimate after its UN-authorized mandate expired on December 24 last year.
The House has scheduled a vote on Thursday for the selection of a new prime minister.
