Libyan Crimes Watch (LCW) organization has blamed the outgoing Government of National Unity (GNU) for blogger Tayeb Al-Shariri’s murder, by the Joint Operations Force militia, which is affiliated with GNU.
The organization said: “We followed a video posted on social media on Sunday showing the killing of “Al-Tayeb Al-Shariri,” 27, working for the Misrata branch of the Internal Security Agency, by gunmen of the “Joint Operations Force” affiliated with Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh.
LCW added that Al-Shariri was killed by two bullets in the back and the leg, on Qarkoum Street in the center of Misurata.
The organization confirmed that the armed men of the force attacked the victim when he left his work because of his publication of a video criticizing the “Joint Operations Force” against the background of his arrest and illegal detention for five days earlier.
LCW reported that, according to the victim’s family, the perpetrators were arrested hours after the incident, and the Misurata Prosecution began investigating and finding evidence.
The organization held the Government of National Unity responsible for extrajudicial killings and unlawful arrest and detention.
LCW called on the judicial authorities to hold the perpetrators accountable and to bring justice to the victims.
