Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Mangoush, called on Libya’s neighboring countries to support and adopt “Libya Stability Initiative”, and to participate in the international conference that Libya will organize late September this year, according to the Libyan Foreign Ministry.
Mangoush explained, at the ministerial meeting of Libya’s neighboring countries, held in Algiers, that the aim of the announcement of Libya Stability Initiative is to be led and directed by Libya and supported by the United Nations and brotherly and friendly countries to help the Libyans to choose their destiny and their future based on the outputs of Berlin conferences, the Ministry said in a statement.
Mangoush pointed out that Libya’s vision to achieve stability (Libya Stability Initiative) consists of two important tracks: the military and security track, and the economic track.
The security and military track is the biggest challenge facing Libya today, especially with the country’s progress towards general national elections, which requires, with the support of Libya’s partners and allies, work to unify the Libyan army under one command to uphold Libyan sovereignty, integrate armed groups, and rehabilitate them on the security or civil levels, she added.
It also requires withdrawal of mercenaries and foreign forces whose continued presence poses a threat not only to Libya, but to the entire region, in addition to securing and protecting the Libyan borders to prevent destructive phenomena such as illegal immigration, human trafficking, organized crime and smuggling, Mangoush said.
The Minister stressed that “the goal of the Libya Stability Initiative is to put in place the necessary executive mechanisms to achieve stability in Libya, and pave the way for the ultimate goal of ensuring the sustainability of stability and peace for the benefit of all Libyans.”
