Ziad Daghim, a member of Libya’s parliament, denounced today the decision of the High National Election Commission (HNEC) to divide presidential elections into two rounds.
Imad al-Sayeh, the HNEC chairman, appeared on press conference today to announce that first round of the presidential elections will be held on December 24, while the second and final round will take place in January along with the parliamentary elections.
Daghim said the HNEC decision violates the presidential election law, which the House of Representatives issues a few months earlier.
He urged the House to address the “rebellion” of al-Sayeh who the MP accused of relaying on foreign support.
Daghim said al-Sayeh’s decision is akin an alleged proposal made by the United States to split the presidential elections.
