Applications for entry visas to Italy from Libya increased by 11 percent from January 1 to October 26, compared to the same period the previous year.
This was reported by the Italian Embassy in Libya via X (formerly known as Twitter). This increase, the embassy reports, also comes “in connection with the restart of direct flights between Libya and Italy” starting from the end of September.
Italy and Libya have reestablished a direct connection after a decade-long ban, marking a significant milestone in Libya’s civil aviation industry. The first nonstop flight between Rome and Tripoli was operated by ITA Airways, with the Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh onboard.
The historical flight AZ8904 was operated between Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) and Tripoli Mitiga International Airport (MJI) with ITA’s Airbus A320. The diplomatic flight departed FCO at 14:20 and arrived in MJI at 15:47. On the return leg, it left MJI at 17:00, arriving in FCO at 18:54.
