Former Minister of Oil in the Government of National Unity, Mohamed Aoun, stated that on Saturday, September 6, 2025, he was at Mitiga Airport with his youngest son, on his way to travel for a private matter.
Aoun explained in a statement to Al-Masar TV that a judgment in absentia was issued against him concerning his tenure as chairman of the management committee of the Zueitina Oil Company between 1999 and November 2005. He pointed out that before the ruling was issued, he had not been summoned to appear before any judicial or regulatory body, nor was his testimony heard.
He added that he attended the retrial session and presented his defense through his lawyer, and the session for the verdict announcement has been scheduled for this Tuesday, September 9.
The former Oil Minister affirmed his confidence that he has committed no wrongdoing against the nation, himself, or his family, stressing his readiness to accept the verdict. He confirmed that he is now at his home in the Bin Ashour area of Tripoli, safe and sound.
