Abu Bakr Saeed, member of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), said that the failure of the Morocco meeting between HoR and the High Council of State (HSC) to reach a consensual formula on election law confirms that there are those who do not want holding the elections on time.
“Neither the sponsoring state, nor the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, nor the ambassador of the United States of America explicitly approved this,” Saeed tweeted.
“This might be an additional opportunity for them. They must either agree or bypassed, and to search for other alternatives to formulate election laws, if the goal is to achieve the elections next December,” he added.
HoR and HSC delegations talks were concluded in Morocco last Friday, without announcing a final agreement on the elections.
In their final statement, the attendees described the meetings as taking place in friendly and fraternal conditions in which understanding and consensus prevail between the partners of the one country, pointing to the participation of the Moroccan side and members of the UN mission.
They called on the international community to support the electoral process in Libya in accordance with agreed laws, and on the basis of the outcomes of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, and to ensure respect for its results through the provision of international observers to ensure the good progress of this important national entitlement.
