Sebha — The National Development Agency (NDA) has commissioned the start of construction on the Al-Shawash Gharbal International Stadium in Libya’s Southern Region, the agency announced.
The project, described as a vital initiative to support youth development, is being implemented under the direct supervision of the NDA. The agency noted the project has the “support and guidance” of General Saddam Khalifa, the Deputy General Commander, as part of a broader push to enhance sports infrastructure and empower youth across the country.
The first phase of work includes several on-site technical and engineering tasks. Contractors are conducting field soil tests, preparing structural studies and designs, and executing precise topographical surveys to define the site’s boundaries and elevations.
Crews have also begun laying out the stadium’s footprint according to approved blueprints, starting excavation, and procuring granular base material for the foundation works.
The stadium is a component of the NDA’s “Vision 2030,” a strategic plan launched in London last May. The vision aims to “build a modern sports environment that nurtures youth talents” and “provides spaces for creativity,” fostering competition and contributing to comprehensive, sustainable development in Libya.
