Member of the Libyan Presidential Council (PC), Abdulla al-Lafi, said Sunday that “there is no way for retracting the eleventh amendment that regulates the political structure of the Libyan state,” referring to the amendment of the Constitutional Declaration approved by the House of Representatives (HoR) on November 26, 2018.
This came in a brief statement that al-Lafi published on his official Facebook page.
Article 1 of the Eleventh Amendment to the Constitutional Declaration stipulates that “the amended political agreement, according to what was agreed upon, guarantees the formation of the Presidential Council of a president, two deputies, and a separate prime minister, based on the constitutional declaration.”
Al-Lafi’s statement came in light of the escalation of the political crisis in Libya following the assignment of the House of Representatives, Fathi Bashagha, to form a new government to succeed the Government of National Unity headed by Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh, where the latter refused to hand over power except to an elected government.
