UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily said Friday he met Presidential Council Deputy Abdullah Al-Lafi “to review and discuss next steps for bringing stability to Libya including through the national reconciliation process.”
Member of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdulla al-Lafi, said Sunday that “there is no way for retracting the eleventh amendment that regulates the political structure of the Libyan state,” referring to the amendment of the Constitutional Declaration approved by the House of Representatives (HoR) on November 26, 2018.
Abdulla al-Lafi, Deputy Chairman of Libya’s Presidential Council, met on Sunday with Italy’s Special Envoy to Libya, Nicola Orlando, and Ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi in Tripoli, announced the council’s spokeswoman Najwa Wheba.
Vise-President of the Libyan Presidential Council (PC), Abdulla al-Lafi, described his meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR), Aguila Saleh, on Saturday as positive.
U.N. Envoy to Libya Ján Kubiš stressed the need for all Libyan parties to accept the results of the elections. He reportedly made his remarks during a meeting the council’s deputy chairman Abdulla al-Lafi in Tripoli, according to a statement by the Presidential Council on Sunday.
Abdulla al-Lafi, the Presidential Council’s Vice President, has publicly confirmed reports of a proposed plan to postpone the election until March 2022. However, he stressed that the plan is a “personal initiative” and does not represent any political body.
