Public Health Prosecutor General Affirms Commitment to Health Sector Reform and Development Programs

Benghazi – Dr. Abdel Salam Aqila, the General Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, affirmed that the ministry is continuing its reform and development programs to improve health services. He emphasized the importance of field follow-ups and raising performance standards at health facilities.

His remarks came during the regular meeting of department and office directors at the Ministry’s headquarters. Ministry advisors attended the meeting, which focused on monitoring workflow, evaluating performance, and discussing key administrative and technical issues in the health sector.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, reviewed achievements from the second quarter of this year. Participants evaluated performance levels across different departments, discussed progress on reform plans, and addressed major challenges such as budget delays and their impact on program implementation.

Dr. Aqila stressed the need to strengthen inspection and oversight measures at health facilities and to take action against administrative negligence or financial misconduct. He said these steps would reinforce institutional discipline and improve the quality of healthcare services.

He praised government support for the health sector and welcomed decisions that boost reform and development efforts. Among these is the approval of regulations setting treatment fees for foreign nationals at hospitals and health facilities, as well as measures to stabilize medical staff and improve performance, particularly in remote areas.

Dr. Aqila also highlighted support from the General Command of the Armed Forces in various regions and noted ongoing efforts to expand healthcare access for citizens through health programs and medical convoys.

The meeting addressed the importance of continuing medical education and training programs, which are key to strengthening the skills of medical and support staff. It also reviewed progress on upgrading and preparing health facilities to enhance services for citizens.

Dr. Aqila commended the work of emergency teams, rapid response units, and specialized committees during emergencies. He confirmed their readiness and commitment despite challenges and limited resources.

He also acknowledged the critical role of medical teams and support staff in providing healthcare, stating that their results reflect a high level of commitment and professionalism.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from the ministry to proceed with reform and development plans in the coming period, aiming to improve health services and maximize the use of limited resources.
