Moscow – Russia announced Wednesday that Ukrainian drones struck several neighborhoods in St. Petersburg, damaging civilian infrastructure and injuring several people. The attacks coincided with the start of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
According to a statement from the city’s press office, drones hit infrastructure in the Kronstadt, Kirovsky, and Krasnoselsky districts early in the morning. The attack caused injuries and damage to multiple facilities. Recovery operations are underway.
Russian media said the attacks took place as the economic forum opened, running from June 3 to 6 under the theme, “Pragmatic Dialogue: The Path to a Stable Future.”
Russia’s aviation authority temporarily restricted flights at Pulkovo Airport. Local media reported that more than 30 flights were delayed or canceled.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian drones hit the St. Petersburg oil terminal and a military base on Kronstadt Island near the city.
