Sebha – The First Scientific Conference for Medical Sciences kicked off today, Monday, at Sebha University, under the patronage of an initiative by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar and the Cabinet Diwan for the Southern Region, with the slogan “For a Better Healthy Future.” The conference will continue over Monday and Tuesday at the university’s Language Center, with wide participation from academics and researchers in the health and medical fields from inside and outside Libya, in addition to university students.
The opening ceremony was attended by the President of Sebha University, Masoud Mohammed Al-Raqeeq; the Director of the Follow-up Department at the Prime Minister’s Diwan for the Southern Region, Hassan Taher; the Vice President for Scientific Affairs at the university, Kossi Mie; deans of faculties; the Vice President of the Council of Medical Specialties; and a number of directors of medical centers, departments, specialists, hospitals, and health centers.
In his speech, the President of Sebha University affirmed that the conference is being held after the university completed all the scientific disciplines it teaches and has dedicated specialized conferences, work sessions, and seminars to them. He noted that the medical aspect of the conference will be part of the Conference of Science and Technology, which will reach its tenth edition next year, in addition to conferences on educational, humanities, economic, and medical sciences, stressing the importance of producing applicable recommendations.
For his part, the representative of the Prime Minister’s Diwan for the Southern Region, Hassan Taher, explained that the conference is the result of the efforts of the university and its academic institutions to support scientific research and advance the health sector. He expressed the appreciation of the General Command and the Libyan Government for the development of the south and the advancement of its health and educational institutions, affirming the Diwan’s support for all efforts that contribute to improving the quality of medical services, qualifying national personnel, and encouraging scientific research and education in the southern regions.
The Chairman of the conference’s preparatory committee, Saleh Al-Manouni, stressed that the scientific event highlights collective efforts to showcase the university’s role as a beacon of science and knowledge for community service. He pointed out that the goal of holding the conference is to foster the spirit of scientific research and develop the health sector through active participation among academics, practitioners, and experts from various scientific disciplines.
For his part, the Chairman of the conference’s scientific committee, Ibrahim Ali Mohammed Ashnaf, explained that the conference’s objectives are to shed light on health conditions, identify key issues, challenges, and diseases, enhance the university’s role in spreading community health awareness, consolidate scientific research in the health field, develop medical services, and encourage scientific cooperation between universities and research centers.
The first day of the conference featured scientific sessions in which a number of researchers, academics, and specialists participated by presenting scientific research in various medical and health fields, reviewing related data and the latest scientific developments. A scientific and medical exhibition was also opened on the sidelines of the conference, where a number of companies and research centers displayed pharmaceutical products and modern medical devices, providing detailed explanations to visitors about their areas of use.
