Tazurbu – Local agricultural experiments recorded encouraging initial results. They cultivated the Miswak tree in the Tazurbu desert. This is a promising environmental step. It aims to revive one of Libya’s rarest desert plants. The effort also preserves a natural heritage spanning centuries.
Abdulbasit Qashqash is the coordinator of the Ain Saqr Desert Rescue Association. He stated that several farmers recently began planting Miswak seedlings. Initial indicators showed the tree’s ability to adapt. It tolerates the harsh climatic conditions of the desert region.
Qashqash told the Libyan News Agency that an original Miswak tree exists in the Tazurbu desert. Its age is estimated at over 400 years. It is the only tree of its kind in Libya. The success of its cultivation holds special environmental importance. It also carries significant heritage value.
Miswak is extracted from the roots and branches of this tree. Expanding its cultivation could provide a sustainable natural resource in the future. It would also protect the rare tree from extinction. This effort enhances biodiversity in desert areas.
The association coordinator affirmed these experiments are a start. They represent a scientific and agricultural path for future development. He called on relevant authorities to support local initiatives. The experiment needs scientific documentation. This will ensure its continuity and long-term benefits.
