The Governor of the Central Bank of Libya, Naji Issa, held a meeting yesterday with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The meeting was dedicated to discussing the strategic projects implemented by the programme in Libya and ways to enhance joint cooperation in the areas of public sector development, improving public finance, and combating corruption and money laundering.
According to a statement from the Bank, the meeting also addressed mechanisms to support institutional development and capacity building, as well as accelerating the digital transformation process by utilizing artificial intelligence technologies, in line with the objectives of the National Strategic Plan for Financial Inclusion.
The two sides also discussed ways to support and finance small and medium-sized enterprises, enhance digitization and financial inclusion efforts, in addition to developing national competencies in the fields of financial and economic modeling and analysis.
The two parties agreed to move forward with signing a memorandum of understanding between the Central Bank of Libya and the UNDP, following the completion of technical studies and a review of relevant international experiences to ensure best practices in implementation.
It is noteworthy that the programme’s delegation included the Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Arab States, Abdallah Al Dardari, and the programme’s Resident Representative in Libya, Sophie Kemkhadze.
