Al-Marj – The Libyan government’s Minister of Electricity, Engineer Awad Al-Badri, visited Al-Marj city saturday. He oversaw the charging process of the city’s new power plant. This plant will restore stable electricity service to the city and its surrounding areas. This follows a seven-month crisis.
The Ministry’s media office clarified this step. It aligns with directives from the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. It was directly followed up by Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar. The Libyan Prime Minister, Dr. Osama Hammad, supervised it. It received direct support from Engineer Belqasem Khalifa Haftar, Director-General of the Development and Reconstruction Fund.
Al-Marj city and its suburbs suffered repeated power outages in recent months. This was due to a fire that affected the main transformer at the city’s power plant. The incident occurred at the end of May 2025.
Previously, the Minister of Electricity formed a specialized technical committee. This committee began its field work under the supervision of the General Electricity Company’s Board of Directors. It fully coordinated with relevant authorities. Its tasks included rehabilitating the burnt-out plant and installing the new station. They also prepared high and medium voltage systems. Safety tests and technical inspections were also conducted.
Through seven months of diligent work, technical teams managed to end the electricity crisis. This was achieved in the city and its suburbs. The new plant and transformer were brought into actual service. They were connected to the general grid.
The Ministry indicated that power restoration to Al-Marj city and its suburbs will begin tomorrow, Sunday. This will follow a technical plan. The plan aims to ensure grid stability and improve electricity supply quality.
