Joseph Aoun explained this in an interview with Lebanon TV. The interview marked one year since he assumed the presidency. He stated the Lebanese Army performs its duties in the South. It applies the decision of exclusive weapon control. This applies to all armed groups. The army also considers the special situation of Palestinians in the camps.
He indicated that the disarmament process in some camps is gradual. He affirmed the army bears significant responsibilities. These include maintaining security. They also include border control. The army combats terrorism and drugs. This is despite its limited available capabilities.
The President emphasized that the time has come. The state must assume responsibility. It must protect its citizens and territories. He called on all Lebanese. They should prioritize the power of logic. This is over the logic of force. This applies to national affairs management. It will ensure continued stability. It will also achieve national sovereignty.
