Copenhagen – Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen issued a warning. She stated that the escalating conflict over Greenland could have direct implications for NATO’s security. Any threat to the autonomous territory would undermine the alliance’s collective security system.
During discussions with Danish party leaders, Frederiksen said Greenland faces a “critical moment.” This is amidst escalating US pressure. US President Donald Trump seeks to impose Washington’s control over the Arctic island.
She added that an ongoing dispute exists regarding Greenland. The matter extends beyond what is apparent. She emphasized that any threat to a NATO member would affect collective security. This security was established after World War II.
The Prime Minister announced a meeting. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will meet his US counterpart, Marco Rubio. This meeting will take place next week to hold talks regarding Greenland. This follows a joint request from Denmark and the autonomous government of Greenland. They requested to initiate dialogue with the United States. She noted that Denmark “stands at a crossroads.” The exact location or time of the meeting was not specified.
