N’Djamena – A Chadian government decision was issued today, Monday. It confirmed the closure of the border between Sudan and Chad. The closure will remain until further notice. This follows repeated incursions by armed groups. This comes two days after the Rapid Support Forces announced control of Al-Tina border city. The RSF is currently at war with the Sudanese army.
Agence France-Presse quoted a statement from Chadian Information Minister Mohamed Kassim Sharif. The statement said this decision follows repeated incursions. Violations of Chadian territory were committed by warring factions in Sudan. Chad seeks to avoid any expansion of the conflict. It reserves the right to respond to any aggression. It will also respond to any violation of its territorial sovereignty and borders.
The government decision clarified the suspension of cross-border movement. This includes both goods and individuals. It noted that exceptions might be allowed. These exceptions must be strictly for humanitarian reasons.
