Tunis – Tunisian security forces announced a thwarted terrorist operation. This occurred Saturday evening in the Kasserine governorate. A dangerous terrorist element was eliminated. Another individual was arrested. This information came from an official statement. The Tunisian Interior Ministry issued the statement.

The ministry clarified details. Security units conducted a qualitative operation. It took place near the weekly market in Feryana city. Feryana is part of Kasserine governorate. They eliminated terrorist Seddik El Abidi. His accompanying element was apprehended. This followed accurate tracking and monitoring. These are pre-emptive efforts. They aim to neutralize terrorist threats and protect citizens.

The statement added details. Security officer Marwan Al Qadiri was severely injured. This happened during the security units’ intervention. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries. The ministry described this as a new sacrifice. It was made for the nation’s security and stability.

The Interior Ministry stated further. The eliminated terrorist belonged to the Jund Al-Khilafah battalion. This battalion is loyal to the ISIS terrorist organization. He was active in the western mountainous areas bordering Algeria. He is suspected of involvement in several terrorist operations. These targeted civilians, security patrols, and military patrols. These incidents occurred over past years.

The ministry affirmed ongoing investigations. The arrested individual is being interrogated. This is to uncover the operation’s circumstances. Authorities are tracking any potential links. These links could be to other extremist cells or elements. They are also identifying sources of support and funding. Logistical movements are also being determined.

Tunisian authorities continue operations. They have pursued and tracked extremist elements since 2012. These elements belong to ISIS and Al-Qaeda. Their focus is especially on the western mountain range. This range connects Kasserine, Kef, and Jendouba governorates. It lies along the Algerian border strip. This area is a prominent hotbed for terrorist activity.

The Interior Ministry emphasized its commitment. Security and military units will continue pre-emptive operations. They will do so with utmost resolve. The sacrifices of security personnel remain a motivation. This drives the ongoing war on terrorism. It also protects Tunisia from all threats. These threats target its security and citizens’ safety.
