Assistant Secretary-General and UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Coordinator, Raisedon Zenenga, reiterated UNSMIL’s commitment to supporting Libyans in achieving elections that are “timely, credible and inclusive, in line with the Libyan political road map and relevant Security Council resolutions, and which will yield stability for Libya.”
UNSMIL Coordinator held virtual consultations on Sunday with a diverse group of civil society representatives from all parts of Libya, UNSMIL said in a statement.
Participants shared their views on elections, with a common message that the goal for the elections should be to deliver stability & to enable the country to emerge out of recurrent political crises. Many stressed the need to secure acceptance of the results by all actors, the statement pointed out.
ASG Zenenga welcomed participants’ engagement with UNSMIL and underscored the important role of civil society in contributing to a stable, peaceful and democratic Libya, it added.
