The U.S. State Department announced it chaired a meeting of senior officials from nine nations on the margins of the UN General Assembly to discuss supporting Libya’s economic and security foundations.
According to Department’s statement, the meeting reaffirmed international support for Libya’s unity and stability. Participants welcomed a briefing from UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh on efforts to advance a political roadmap.
The State Department highlighted the importance of integrating security forces from eastern and western Libya and noted support for modifying the UN arms embargo to enable training.
It also underscored the need to bolster key economic institutions like the National Oil Corporation and the Central Bank to promote stability.
Participants agreed on supporting the UN political roadmap, stating that unifying institutions is critical for Libya’s prosperity and sovereignty.
