The current agreement between the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and the President of the State Council in Tripoli, Khaled Al-Mishri, regarding the formation of a joint committee to try to agree on the election law this year is “a fragile agreement that will not last long,” said member of the State Council, Idris Boufayed.
“I reject the method of choosing the 6+6 joint committee, as well as the Thirteenth Constitutional Amendment, and that the UN mission will accept any consensus, even if it is incorrect, and will proceed with the UN envoy’s plan to hold presidential and parliamentary elections this year,” Boufayed added in press statements.
“The implementation of the UN plan will not be easy in light of the contrary method of the State Council in selecting the committee, and that the agreement between Saleh and Mashri is weak because what unites the two parties is only the change of the executive authority,” Boufayed concluded.
