Musa Al-Koni is a member of the Presidential Council. He spoke at the 8th Annual Conference of the National Council on US-Libya Relations. The conference was held in Washington, D.C. Al-Koni stated that any political path must be realistic. It must also be implementable on the ground. This is crucial for resolving Libya’s political crisis.
He clarified the basis for a legitimate political path. It cannot be merely theoretical. It requires broad national consensus. It must also accommodate Libya’s complex reality. Furthermore, it needs to ensure the participation of all active parties. This approach will lead to sustainable stability.
Al-Koni also stressed regional representation. The three founding regions of the Libyan state must be included in future arrangements. He specifically emphasized the need for active participation from the Fezzan region. This will strengthen national balance.
Al-Koni held a meeting on the conference sidelines. He met with Masood Boulos. Boulos is the U.S. President’s Advisor for Arab and African Affairs. Al-Koni expressed appreciation for American efforts. These efforts aim to address Libya’s political and economic situation.
During the meeting, Al-Koni called for listening to diverse political bodies. These include the House of Representatives and the High Council of State. The Presidential Council also needs to be heard. Other active parties must also be included. This ensures a comprehensive and balanced path.
He noted Fezzan’s insufficient involvement in past arrangements. This was particularly true regarding the unified budget. Al-Koni affirmed Fezzan’s strategic and security importance to the state. Its stability directly impacts Libya’s overall stability. Fezzan has borne the conflict’s repercussions. This occurred despite it remaining outside the direct conflict zone.
