Mahmoud Al-Oraibi is the head of the Bakers Syndicate in Benghazi. He confirmed a significant increase in flour prices in recent weeks. The price per quintal previously ranged from 180 to 200 dinars. It has now reached 240 dinars. Al-Oraibi made these remarks to Al-Raed News Network. The network is close to the Justice and Construction Party. This party is the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Al-Oraibi stated that rising flour prices have impacted bakery owners. Bread prices have remained the same until now.
He clarified that the price increase was not limited to flour. Other ingredients were also affected. A box of oil now costs 190 dinars. Yeast prices rose from 150 to 185 dinars. Sugar prices have reached 200 dinars.
In his concluding remarks, Al-Oraibi affirmed that the state lacks a strategic wheat reserve. Any existing reserves are held by milling companies. These are companies authorized to import wheat. He noted a lack of clear information about the size of these reserves.
