Benghazi – The Benghazi Capital of Arab Culture 2026 organizing committee has approved the initial program for the celebration during its third meeting, held Sunday evening at the Benghazi Popular Theater. The committee discussed proposals from organizing subcommittees, finalized the event schedule, and reviewed logistics to ensure broad participation from institutions and artists inside and outside Libya.
Committee member Ali Jaber told the Libyan News Agency that the program will run for three months, from September 16 to December 24, 2026. The opening ceremony will coincide with the anniversary of the martyrdom of Sheikh Omar Mukhtar. The closing ceremony will take place on Libya’s Independence Day.
The celebration will feature theater festivals, intellectual forums, poetry and art evenings, music festivals, and book fairs. These events aim to reflect the diversity of Libyan and Arab cultural life.
Jaber noted that the committee has planned the main events and is now working to finalize dates for each activity. Coordination and preparations will begin according to the approved timeline.
At the end of the meeting, the committee adopted a series of cultural initiatives. These include four theatrical performances, six music programs, eight forums, and twelve art evenings, among a range of events scheduled throughout the celebration period.
