Zawiya – The Libyan Association of Members of Judicial Bodies has condemned, in the strongest terms of denunciation and disapproval, the treacherous crime committed against Counselor Fawzi Ali Derbal, a counselor at the Zawiya Court of Appeals, yesterday morning, Sunday, following an armed robbery.
Details of the Incident
Derbal, according to his statement to the association, was driving his white Toyota Corolla vehicle, bearing license plate (2840932. Libya) belonging to the Attorney General’s office at the Supreme Judicial Council, when he was harassed at a traffic light in the Sabriya area. After passing the light, he was chased by a gray Honda Accord and forced to stop.
He added that one of the perpetrators, an armed man estimated to be around forty years old with visible gray hair, got out of the vehicle. He forcibly removed Derbal, stole his vehicle, mobile phone, and belongings before the criminals fled the scene.
The association affirmed that what Derbal was subjected to is a criminal act not targeting a specific individual, but rather representing a serious assault on the prestige of the judiciary and a blatant violation of the security and dignity of members of judicial bodies.
The association called on the Attorney General’s office to take urgent measures to open a criminal investigation, uncover the identity of the perpetrators, and pursue the case with firmness. It also urged the competent security authorities to intensify search and investigation efforts to apprehend the accused, especially since the features of their vehicle and their descriptions have been clearly noted.
The association noted that it will spare no effort in defending its members, holding the competent authorities fully responsible for ensuring the complete protection of judges, members of the public prosecution, and all colleagues, including the necessary means of personal and professional protection.
