The Libyan Ministry of Culture condemned on Saturday the “arrest” of Minister Mabrouka Toghi by the Public Prosecutor, considering the matter an escalatory step aimed at undermining the success of the ministry.
The Ministry said in a statement that Toghi’s arrest came after she went to the Attorney General’s office to submit the necessary statements on the charges brought against the ministry by the Undersecretary of Public Affairs, Khairy Al-Randi, only to be surprised by her arrest and referral to pretrial detention without regard to the explanations for which she came.
The statement demanded the speedy formation of a committee ordered by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to follow up on the circumstances of the case, which it described as “arrest”.
The ministry called on the Public Prosecution Office and all state officials; the Presidential Councils, the House of Representatives and the High State Council, to assume their responsibilities, and to release Toghi in accordance with the law.
