Libya – Najia Rashed is the Director of Tuberculosis and Leprosy Management. She works at the National Center for Disease Control. Rashed confirmed that tuberculosis is an endemic and ancient disease in Libya. It affects the lungs and other organs outside the lungs.
Rashed made a statement to Libya Al-Ahrar TV. This channel. She indicated that the current epidemiological situation in Libya is under control.
She explained that Libya’s first Tuberculosis Forum was held recently. It took place in Tripoli. The forum was a strategic step. It informed the Ministry of Health and related sectors about the situation. This was especially important due to increasing cases among non-Libyan patients.
National statistics for 2025 show that 60% of cases affect non-Libyans. Libyans account for 40% of the total tuberculosis cases. The total number of cases reached 2,700 by the end of the year.
Rashed affirmed that tuberculosis treatment is available. It is also free of charge. These are proactive measures. They aim to avoid obstacles or complications from increased spread.
She noted that the main obstacles lie in controlling undocumented migrant patients. These individuals represent a mobile and unstable population. This burdens the staff at the National Center branches.
She clarified that the disease is dangerous. It threatens to spread if patients are not treated. However, the current epidemiological situation in Libya remains under control. She pointed out that most patients are undocumented migrants.
