Benghazi – The Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Misbah Douma, issued a formal statement on Sunday. He strongly condemned repeated statements by Greek officials. The latest was attributed to the Speaker of the Greek Parliament. Douma called the remarks a blatant interference in Libyan internal affairs. He also described them as an infringement on national sovereignty.
In his statement, Douma affirmed that Libya is a fully sovereign state. It alone is authorized to protect its supreme interests and make its own decisions. He stressed the rejection of any foreign attempt to dictate political policies. He also rejected interference in its internal decisions, regardless of the source.
He explained that agreements made by Libya are subject to international laws and norms. No other country has the right to interfere in their ratification or object to them. Douma noted that Libyan decisions come from its legitimate institutions. These institutions represent the will of the Libyan people.
Regarding maritime border disputes, Douma stressed a key point. International legal frameworks are the only authority for resolving such conflicts. They should not be handled through undiplomatic media statements.
Douma concluded his statement by demanding that Greece exercise restraint. He called on Greece to respect Libya’s sovereignty. He also urged them to stop any attempts to interfere in its internal affairs.
