The former British Ambassador to Libya, Peter Millett, said Libya is facing a great state of uncertainty that does not serve the Libyan people, and the United Nations should demand transparent and legally acceptable procedures.
In a statement to Agence France-Presse, Millett said several members of the House of Representatives (HoR) are motivated by the preservation of their positions and privileges, rather than allowing a process that leads smoothly to the holding of elections.
He added that the big divide now is between the Libyan people, who want elections, and the political elite, who do not want the elections.
Millett made it clear that denying Libyans their right to vote and postponing the elections may exacerbate the risk of instability in Tripoli.
