The National Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) has announced that the solar power generation plant of the predicted capacity of 500 megawatts located in the As Saddadah area, west of Sirte, has been commissioned and connected to the national electricity grid.
This was reported by the Libyan company itself in a statement published on its Facebook page, adding that the move is part of the efforts made by Gecol to implement “strategic projects” aimed at making the most of the available resources.
The plant project in question was inaugurated last year and its construction also saw the involvement of the French company TotalEnergy .
“This project is part of the joint cooperation with the Renewable Energy Authority to implement the strategic plan to integrate the country’s electric capacities with renewable energy sources,” GECOL said in the statement.
According to the North African public company, the As Saddadah solar plant project will be “Libya’s first and largest”.
