The Benghazi-based branch of the the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) said on Tuesday that it was forced to shed loads in eastern region areas, specifically the Green Mountain, due to the “inaction of the government and the company’s board of directors in Tripoli.”
GECOL said the load shedding would result in 8-hour power cut in those areas as they experience low temperatures due to cold weather.
The company said it sent a number of correspondences to the Tripoli-based main branch in order to demand urgent maintenance.
“We also noted the need to expedite the implementation of the maintenance of power transmission lines at that time, which did fell on deaf ears,” said the company in a statement.
