General Command condemns Al-Toom crossing attack and affirms securing the positions

Benghazi – The General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces strongly condemned the cowardly attack. The attack targeted the Al-Toum border crossing. It was carried out by mercenary groups and outlaw armed terrorist gangs. The General Command affirmed this criminal aggression aims to undermine the country’s security and stability. It will not deter the armed forces from continuing their national duty to protect the borders.

In a statement, the General Command explained that armed terrorist elements launched a simultaneous attack. This occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. The attack targeted three border locations. These included the Al-Toum border crossing, Wadi Boughrara point, and Al-Salvador point. These points are located on the border strip between Libya and Niger. Border Guard forces are stationed there. Their mission is to secure the area and combat smuggling and organized crime.

The statement indicated that this treacherous aggression resulted in three martyrs. These were members of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. Several others were injured. A number of personnel were also taken captive. They were performing their national duty to protect and guard the nation’s borders. Efforts are ongoing to liberate them. Necessary measures are being taken against the aggressor groups.

The General Command affirmed that the criminal gangs behind the attack specialize in all forms of smuggling. They had recently suffered severe blows. The armed forces had cut off their supply and smuggling routes. The armed forces had been vigilant in multiple locations. This drove the gangs to carry out this desperate hostile act. They were supported by hostile parties seeking to destabilize Libya’s security and stability.

The General Command reassured citizens. Their armed forces have fully re-secured the targeted locations. Sweeping and pursuit operations are ongoing to track down fleeing elements. Preliminary information indicates the attackers fled towards Niger’s borders. Work is underway to pinpoint their locations. They will be dealt with according to the situation’s demands.

The General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces renewed its pledge to the Libyan people. The blood of the martyrs will not be in vain. The armed forces will remain the nation’s impenetrable shield. They will vigilantly protect its borders. They will preserve its security and stability.
