Oil fields in western Libya and Greenstream, a natural gas link to Italy, resumed after a short halt as Petroleum Facilities Guard withdrew from the facilities following assurances from the Government of National Unity that their demands would be met, Bloomberg reports.
Shipments from the Wafa field, which produces 40,000 to 45,000 barrels a day, are back up after being halted on Sunday as guards at the facilities demanded better pay, according to Bloomberg The gas pipeline to Italy, Greenstream, is also operating again, as per Bloomberg’s source who asked not to be identified “because the information is private.”
Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh signed on Sunday a decision to revise the salaries of Petroleum Facilities Guard in accordance with the salary plan provided for security employees. This comes after the Guard shut down of all oil facilities including the Greenstream pipeline. They claimed they’re protesting Dbeibeh’s disregard for their demand to officially recognize the group as security force under the authority of National Oil Corporation (NOC) and salary increase, among other demands.
Libyan oilfields have been the target of numerous shutdowns by both protesters and armed groups in recent years.
