The Libyan presidential elections, set for December 24, will be postponed, revealed Al-Hadi Al-Saghir, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Elections Monitoring.
Al-Saghir told the press on Saturday that government of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh would continue to serve as caretaker until a new government is elected.
He said that the parliament has reviewed reports from the High National Election Commission (HNEC) and the High Judicial Council, and concluded that “the postponement of the elections has become inevitable.”
The parliamentary chairman said the HNEC and the parliament will make a formal announcement of the elections postponement but he did not specify the timing.
