Tripoli – The National Center for Disease Control has announced efforts to enhance health preparedness and surveillance. These efforts will focus on Libyan points of entry. They are part of a national plan to implement International Health Regulations (IHR).
This followed a national working meeting with the Center’s Director-General, Dr. Haider Al-Sayeh. The meeting aims to develop a five-year, multi-sector strategy involving all port authorities. The strategy comes after a comprehensive assessment of surveillance capabilities at nine entry points. The assessment occurred during October and November 2025.
The meeting included broad participation from vital sectors. These were port security, health emergencies, animal health, and food and drug control. Representatives from airports, seaports, and customs also attended. The EU Mission, the International Organization for Migration, and the World Health Organization were present.
The Center affirmed this meeting is a significant step. It will strengthen surveillance and rapid response to any potential health threats. This ensures public health protection and adherence to international standards.
